Calvin joined Parkside Chambers in 2023 upon completion of his pupillages with Mr. Wayne Walsh SC, Mr. Bernard Mak, Mr. Vincent Lung, Mr. John Hui, and Ms. Sabrina Ho. Calvin is developing a broad civil practice and accepts instructions in all areas aligned with Chambers’ specialisms. Calvin has a particular interest in commercial disputes, corporate and securities law and civil fraud.
Calvin has obtained experience from cases involving a wide range of areas, including commercial, banking, companies and shareholder disputes, insolvency, equity and trusts, injunctive relief, financial regulation, and extradition. Calvin can provide written submissions in both English and Chinese (both simplified and traditional) and conduct hearings in both languages.
Prior to his conversion to the Bar, Calvin qualified and practised as a commercial solicitor at a leading U.S. law firm for almost six years, including a six-month secondment to the Hong Kong office of a leading multi-strategy hedge fund. As a solicitor, Calvin was a core team member in year-long projects in which the firm represented world-leading hedge funds and activist investors in contentious and non-contentious matters relating to their investments and other complex commercial transactions, participating in multi-billion dollar activist investments and campaigns involving global conglomerates and financial institutions. Calvin also advised international corporations on a variety of regulatory, investigations, trade and sanctions matters.
Calvin studied law at the University of Hong Kong and graduated with First Class Honours for both his degrees in politics and law and secured the top first place in his double-degree cohort for the law finals. Calvin went on to complete his traineeship with a Magic Circle law firm in its London and Hong Kong offices before pursuing the Bachelor of Civil Law at the University of Oxford, where he received a Distinction for the company and finance law module.
Alongside his legal practice, Calvin has been teaching Contract Law as a Part-time Lecturer with the Faculty of Law at the University of Hong Kong since 2018.
