Wayne Walsh SC, former Principal Government Counsel of the DOJ’s International Law Division, was recently interviewed by the Apple Daily regarding the Government’s proposed amendments to the Fugitive Offenders Ordinance (Cap 503) and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Ordinance (Cap 525), to facilitate extradition arrangements between Hong Kong and the Mainland.
In the article, Wayne gave his personal opinion regarding, inter alia, the desirability of legislating in this regard and how elements of human rights protection might be catered for in the case-by-case arrangements and in the application of any ultimate extradition legislation.
