On Thursday, 9th July, Parkside gathered at the Marriott Hotel to celebrate the contribution of our long-standing member Mark Strachan SC, KC, as he leaves Parkside to return to London following an outstanding career at the Hong Kong Bar. Mark will now be based once again at his London Chambers, 3 Hare Court Chambers, where he will focus on Arbitrator appointments.
Mark has already had an illustrious career and has been an eminent member of the Bar for over 50 years, earning a reputation as a redoubtable advocate and trusted counsel in some of Hong Kong’s most significant commercial and constitutional disputes.
The event was attended by Mr Justice of Appeal Anthony Chan, who appeared as junior counsel on Mark’s very first case in Hong Kong, and Jeffrey Chau who has enjoyed a prolific and successful professional relationship with him across numerous matters.
Formerly Head of Chambers at 3 Hare Court Chambers in London, Mark was called to the Hong Kong Bar and joined Parkside Chambers in 2002 and became Senior Counsel in 2013 (having taken Silk in 1987 in England), he acted as leading counsel for major corporations, financial institutions, governments and private clients across England, Hong Kong and other jurisdictions. Throughout his career, he appeared in numerous high-profile commercial trials, arbitrations, and constitutional matters, becoming a trusted adviser to many of Hong Kong’s leading solicitors.
While the occasion was one of celebration, it also marked the close of an important chapter in Parkside’s history, Mark’s wisdom, advocacy, and collegiality has left an enduring legacy.
Mark is looking forward to an exciting new chapter in his professional life.
