On 12 April 2025, Parkside Chambers’ Benson Tsoi SC gave a lecture on Zoom for the law students of Peking University as part of a common law series of lectures given by the Hong Kong Bar Association.
The course was an introduction to the Criminal Justice System in Hong Kong. Benson provided a comprehensive overview on the Criminal Courts in HK and their Adjudicative Jurisdiction, the General Powers of Law Enforcement Agencies, Commencement of Criminal Proceedings, Pre-Trial Procedure and Bail, Trials in Criminal Courts, Sentencing & Mitigation, Appeals & Reviews and Funding & Costs. The detailed session wrapped up with an engaging and enlightening Q&A session where students posed intriguing and challenging questions.
