Overview

A Bar Scholar and recipient of the Middle Temple Scholarship for Advocacy Training, Jeffrey joined the Hong Kong Bar in 2007.

Jeffrey has a broad, predominantly civil, practice, with a particular focus on general commercial litigation. He has built a robust practice in contentious work in relation to cross-border disputes, banking, company, mis-selling of financial products and intellectual property and has honed his practice along these lines. In this regard, Jeffrey sits on numerous Panels and Boards including, variously, for the Hong Kong Monetary Authority and the Insurance Authority. He has been recognised as a leading junior by Chambers and Partners and Legal 500 in commercial disputes, and has been accredited for “his solid legal foundation” and for “exceeding expectations.”

Jeffrey is often instructed in relation to high-profile, complex and nuanced litigation, appeals and arbitrations and often acts unled.

He also recently appeared in a substantial ICSID arbitration concerning a BIT (Bilateral Investment Treaty) dispute, representing the West Indies government. This arbitration involved a high-stakes, high-value construction project seated in Washington D.C.

Jeffrey was appointed as Amicus Curiae by the Registrar of the Court of Final Appeal in Brian Alfred Hall v HKSAR (2014) 17 HKCFAR 17, and regularly appears for listed companies (local and overseas), banks and international brands.

In terms of judicial appointments, Jeffrey was appointed to sit as a Temporary Deputy Registrar of the High Court (High Court Master) and as a Deputy District Judge.
