On Thursday, 24th September Parkside’s Robin Nelson Egerton and Lareina J. Chan delivered an engaging presentation at Withers in front of about 25 solicitors. The talk centred on the Family Court Masters System & “Functional Training” in the Family Court. Robin and Lareina discussed the practicalities and challenges of navigating Family Court cases, hearings before Masters, and the various Joint Documents to be filed.
They emphasised the critical and non-amendable nature of the Form E document, which serves as the foundation for a matrimonial case. Robin warned that errors in disclosing assets, such as beneficial interests or insurance policies, could adversely affect a client’s credibility. Lareina highlighted the procedure and complexities of Appeals from Family Court Masters’ Decisions to a Judge. They also considered legal strategy and client management – particularly the expectations regarding costs and the realities of matrimonial litigation.
Some interesting questions were raised by the audience at the conclusion of the talk, and Robin and Lareina shed light on the key points that judges wanted to know.
Thank you to Withers for hosting. They offered a captivated audience and a delicious lunch.
